Finger Weaving

Fingerweaving is a ‘low tech’ method for producing cloth; the hands are the only tools needed. This technique was used to create bags and belts in a time before the invention of the loom. All threads are lengthwise in the fabric (called the warp) and each thread takes a turn at being the widthwise thread (known as the weft). This movement also causes the tangled mass called the 'false weave', necessitating an occasional pause in the work to untangle this mass. Fingerweaving as an art can take on many shapes and forms. From large sashes to small keychains and modern wall hangings have a look and enjoy.
